"Two Wheel Trauma"

From time to time readers send in all sorts of things which are interesting, sometimes pictures, jokes, or great tales on the road. Eagleblood4 has come across an item which I think may do some real good for all of us.

I underwent First Responder training on my last ship, I have only been called upon once to use it, and I was glad I was able to be of help. The AMSI course, which is mainly a version for the First Responder course but designed for motorcyclists, could save lives or give comfort in the event of rider going down in your group. It would be great to have a similar program in this area for all the riders of various motorcycle groups in Hampton Roads area.

Accident Scene Management, Inc. ® (ASMI) is a non profit 501(c)3 organization that was established in 1996 after a similar course was brought to Wisconsin by ABATE of Wisconsin and taught by Dick "Slider" Gilmore of Iowa. Slider's program, "Two Wheel Trauma" inspired the creation of "A Crash Course for the Motorcyclist". Since the class began, thousands of motorcyclists have been trained. ASMI programs have received a great deal of press and are now looked at as a model for programs nationwide.

All ASMI instructors are EMT or higher in medical training and are motorcyclists. Our program information is taken from DOT First Responder curriculum and recognized trauma authorities.

Ok if you're interested in taking the class, there's one in Charlotte, NC on 6 and 7 November of 2004. If you're interested in the class but can't or don't want to travel to Charlotte let us know and we will inquire on how to get one here locally.
