On
Track
The motorcycle road racers from Championship Cup
Series bring their exciting two-wheeled competition to VIR's North Course all
weekend. Long a favorite of riders and spectators, CCS is the low-key, friendly
way for the whole family to enjoy motorcycle racing. Whether you ride or not,
CCS races are a great way to see some of the best action around.
Joining all the other action, there is a 'Mini-Moto GP' on VIR's
Plantation Valley Kart Track. If you've never seen a mini-moto, this is a great
sport, with more action in a controlled space than should be allowed. These
mini bikes will run both Saturday and Sunday, so if you miss one day, there's
still plenty of action to entertain you.
The weekend at VIRginia
International Raceway is far more than the two-wheeled competition on North
Course. Sunday's calendar includes the Hare Scramble from VXCS - 'Virginia
Cross Country Series' - the local AMA sanctioned off-road race series for
motorcycles and quads. The course winds through the woods from South Paddock,
along the ridge through the woods down to Hogpen and back, with a special
section designed for motorcycles only. As the VXCS chairman said: "the beauty
and variety of the terrain we've been given to work with is unbelievable. This
is the best stuff I've ever had the pleasure of working with and I've put in
some decent race courses over the years. This one ranks at the top. From
off-camber to stunning uphills and downhills, to riding along the river's edge,
this course has it all. Sand, loam, hard pack, mud, and rock; it's all there.
This course is fantastic."
This is the first scramble/off-road event
held at VIR, so here's another chance to see the history of VIR take another
huge step. Courses will range from about four miles in length to over nine,
depending on race group.
