Motorcycle Mania's Producer Reese takes the
Basic Rider Course at Bayside Harley Davidson November
10th

Saturday November 10th it
was cold and raining. Not a day that anyone would pick as a day to spend
outside learning anything. But for Reese and the other 11 students taking the
Basic Rider Course at Bayside Harley Davidson it was the weather they had.
Not at anytime did I hear
any of the trainees complain about being cold or wet. One look at their faces
and you could tell that they were enjoying the experience.
Jeff and Joe the
instructors where working hard to help Reese get the idea of clutch and
throttle. If any of you can remember back to the first time you drove a
standard shift you can understand how hard it is to get the feel of it down.
Reese had never driven a "stick", and was working real hard to get the process
down.
At one point she was doing
well and then it happened; she stalled the bike and it fell over. Not realizing
it at the time but she suffered a severe strain of the left thumb, that later
caused her to have to drop out of the class.
Reese got past all of the
first couple of exercises and actually got to really ride the length of the big
parking lot all on her own. But the injured hand made operating the clutch more
than just difficult; it became impossible. She was more concerned about doing
something which would put the other students at risk and after talking to the
instructors she reluctantly dropped out.
However the thrill of
making a few passes up and down that big parking lot has only lit a fire that
won't be satisfied until she returns and passes the course and receives her M
endorsement.
