Last October, I took my bike in to Cycle World to have the tires replaced and an annual tune up. When I got the bike back, I noticed that bolts were a bit rounded and hex screws had burrs. Not a good sign of good wrenching. Once I got home, I looked closer and noticed that they had put a rear tire on my front wheel! I knew that because the tire said "rear wheel use only" on the side wall. Not too good from a safety standpoint.....and not rocket science.

I brought the bike back and they replaced the tire. When I got the bike back, it had a large fresh scratch on the front fender. I pointed it out to the service guy and he said, well if you hang around, I can show it to the service manager, but I don't think there is anything we can do.....and they didn't do a thing. Not a biggie, I touched it up.

Last month while riding, I started to leak oil from the rocker panel on the rear cylinder. I took it to another shop (having vowed not to go back to Cycle World). It seems when I had the tune up done at Cycle World the bolt was stripped and over time, worked itself out a bit. Apparently, the Cycle World mechanic hadn't torqued the bolt and over tightened it causing it to strip. So if you want good wrenching and want safe riding, look to another shop.

I took my bike to have an exhaust leak on a set of Vance and Hines. The flange had broken loose and it was back firing when I down shifted. They kept the bike for a week and a half and when I took the bike home it was still doing the same thing.

I decided to take a look at the repair and found that they tried to braze the flange to the pipe. I found a wad of brazing 3/16 in thick digging into the exhaust port and the flange was bent. The inside of the port was marred and had a deep pit along with burrs in it, from Honda of Virginia Beach trying to force the botched flange into the port. It took me more than 2 hours of grinding to fix the port.

I called Honda of Virginia Beach and left a message detailing what I found, and I wanted to talk to someone about the problem; I was never contacted.

I now deal with Cycle World on Virginia Beach Blvd and have to say they are a great to deal with and want to make sure your happy with the work they have done, and a follow up call after you've picked up your bike. Keep up the good work.

I had visited a number of dealers throughout the Tidewater Area looking for a cruiser to get back on the road. Stopped in one afternoon at Cycle World to see what used inventory they had. Met Jeff Griffin who listened to my wants/needs, discussed my experience and financial considerations, and then put me on a great bike at a great price. I'll return to see Jeff when I'm ready for a larger bike - great service and delivered as promised!

I have had my Harley Ultra in their shop two times in the last two years; to have it ran on their Dino Jet. First time was for tuning, and the second was to find an electrical problem, that South Side HD could not find. They solved my problem in about 10 minutes, then ran it on their Dino, just to make sure everything was right. They charge about ½ for a Dino run, than what is charged in Portsmouth for the same thing. I could not be more satisfied with them. Tammy has good people, who know what they are doing.

I stopped in on a Sunday and met Mike in sales. This guy really knows his stuff about bikes and got me on a 2008 CBR 1000. He was very knowledgeable about his products and gave me a no B-S price including some accessories without alot of smoke and mirrors sales tactics. They do not charge freight and prep fees there which I was happy to hear. Mike gave me some great pointers on the machine and I would definately purchase from him again in the future. If your not busy on Sundays stop in and see him. He's a good person to deal with.

I needed the initial 600 mi. service on my new Yamaha. I've had very poor experience with my local Norfolk based Kawasaki/Suzuki/Yamaha dealer so I decided to shop around and see what the other area dealers were offering. I ended up taking my bike to Cycle World in VA Beach. I must say it was a pleasant experience when compared to the dealings I've had with the Norfolk dealer.

I generally try to get any major service work performed in the winter or early spring when there is little backlog and wait time. For this last service visit, my bike was serviced and delivered to me exactly as promised, with no surprises or extra charges. All in all, I'd say Cycle World did a great job and I plan on having my bike serviced there from now on.

Trey Hodges, a big bear of a guy with a nice personality and very willing to help with your bike. What really impressed me most of all is that he is collecting items for our troops overseas and paying postage himself to get the stuff over there.

I want to praise the new shop called Oceana Cycles in VA Beach. They are on the ball with knowledge of motorcycles of all kinds, especially British. I had a problem with my bike late afternoon on a Friday and they took me right in and corrected the problem very quickly. Trey really knows his stuff, I recommend him to anybody.

This is the way a motorcycle repair shop should be. Fair prices, great service, everything you don't get at the other shops. Parts, repairs, and service done the way things should be one on one. If they can find you a better part for a better price they will. It is nice to be a customer again not just a number.

I decided after being "bikeless" since 1995 I wanted another bike mostly for commutes and errands. I had been a prior HD owner but I did not want to get fully back into biking, just wanted a nice small cruiser to get to and from work and occasional weekend putts.

I researched all available bikes to meet my criteria and started shopping all the shops in Tidewater. I found the model I wanted at HONDA of Norfolk and had a good price. They were pretty nice to deal with.

I stopped in Cycle World a day or two later and was immediately greeted by Dave Greer (Junior). I told him what I was after and he showed me the model I was interested in. He then showed me the Suzuki C50 and explained all the differences between it and the other bike I was looking at.

He worked me a killer deal and I went home happy as a old/new bike owner. The bike was promised on the following Saturday as I had ordered a few accessories for it. Dave called me on the Thursday prior and said the parts were available sooner than he expected and the service guys went ahead and finished the bike early. Plus he said it was a beautiful day for a ride. I came in and after spending a very few minutes going over the bike with Dave and the service manager I left completely happy.

When I took my bike in for it's initial break-in service it was again completed earlier and cheaper than quoted.

All my dealings with Cycle World have been very positive!

I dropped off my new Honda Shadow at Honda of Virginia Beach to get the break in/check up done. I dropped it off there because I live close by. I purchased my Honda at Honda of Norfolk because the price was lower and the salesman were allot more professional and kinder. Honda of Virginia Beach refused to do my service work because the bike was not purchased from them. I then had to go back and pick the bike up and drop it off at Cycle World. I will never return to Honda of Virginia Beach for anything else again!!!

Have been around to a few other dealers and although they were good, I have stood by SSHD for years. They know you by your first name in a very short time and try very hard to accommodate you in every way possible. The service shop is the same and they will do all in their power to get you in and out as quickly as possible...I can't say enough about these people and when I am treated as nice as they treat me, I have no intention of going elsewhere. The Honda shop of Norfolk is also in my opinion a good place with nice friendly people but I cannot say much for the Virginia Beach dealer... (enough said here). I have been a Harley man for many, many years but if I ever changed (not likely) I would consider the Honda dealer in Norfolk as my next choice.

Rich's Cycle Upholstery / 487-4592

There are several things one can say about Richard Maund;
-He talks a lot.
-He ain't exactly fast.
-He ain't exactly cheap.
-His work is absolutely amazing.

My 1985 BMW K100 needed a new seat (badly). I checked out some catalogs at the dealership and just couldn't stomach $350-$700 for a new one. I went to my friend Brian at D&D cycles for advice, and he recommended Rich Maund. (Rich's Cycle Upholstery / 487-4592) I called Rich and he invited me over to his workshop (its in his garage) where he showed me several different kinds of vinyl and other materials he works with. While there, he showed me this Russian bike he has rebuilt. (It comes with a sidecar that must be seen to be believed.) A couple of hours later (as I said, Rich likes to talk) I was on my way home, minus my seat (an adventure in it's own right).

Three days later, Rich had built me a work of art. After replacing the foam rubber, he added a Gel-pad at least an inch thick. He widened the seat itself which provides superior support for my, uhhhhhh......... rather shapely butt. The covering is just as fine as ANYTHING coming out of any factory.

With my old seat, I was unable to ride more than 50 miles before I had to get off. I was getting pretty sore. I was even having some nerve problems in my right leg. Since getting my new seat, I ridden HUNDREDS of miles in a day with no problems at all.

Rich isn't cheap. My new seat cost just under $300. But a new seat would have cost more, would not have been custom made to my specifications, and it would not have had that all-important Gel-pad. Words are not enough to describe my respect for Richard Maund. The man is a true artisan. If you need a new seat, go talk to this guy, you will NOT be disappointed.

A&B auto parts plays commercial after commercial saying that if there is an unusual part out there, be it for a car, motorcycle, or even a boat, THEY will have it. Well, that’s bunk. I went to them looking for an ignition switch for my 1985 BMW K-100, and when I asked they didn’t even bother to look. All I got was, “You need to go see the BMW people”. A&B may SAY that they know motorcycles, but that’s all it is: TALK!
