A MOTORCYCLISTS RESPONSIBILITY
by
There are two kinds of motorcyclists, those who
just ride and those who see it's more than just a means of transportation and
fun; a life-style. The second group sees a civic responsibility to stay
informed and take action. To be a part of the legislative process which makes
the rules and laws concerning how, where and when we can ride. Being a
motorcyclist is just like any other part of society; it comes with it civic
responsibility.
Joining any political action group will help; but, you
still have to be aware of what changes are taking place and how it affects you
and our motorcycling community.
If you leave it to someone else to
fight for legislation concerning your motorcycling, your ability to ride when
and where you want, and what other requirements are placed on you; you may be
the one who suffers. Remember we are all different; the way I think it should
be, may not necessarily be the way you would like it. If you don't participate
you can't complain when things you took for granted or thought wouldn't change,
do.
You have to make your voice heard. It's up to you to communicate
your feelings about the bills in Richmond and Washington DC. you need to
communicate to your elected representation what you want them to support or
not.
You have the tools at your fingertips to make a noise which can be
heard clear to Richmond and Washington DC, yes your computer, all that is
necessary is a click or two to the AMA's home page
http://www.ama-cycle.org/index.asp and you can find out
what bills are going to effect you and who to send your email to.
Not a
member, it will still work, by the way, why not join? It doesn't cost more than
a tank of gas or even an oil change. You probably spend more on a weekend's
ride.
Don't wait until something happens that directly affects you.
Apathy will ruin our sport; get involved now.
