Holy Catfish....
It's the Fourth of July Already.

I had all sorts of plans to ride this weekend, but you know how plans are. "Whoosh out the window!" or something like that, kind of like the plans I had to go to Sturgis. They are out the window also, which leaves an opening in the truck. Mike John and Gary may not have filled the slot yet, so get in touch with them if you are interested in going with them.

To make a long story short, I only got out of the house for a couple of hours, and that was to "Boneshakers" on Monday afternoon. I was kind of surprised; the place was not real crowded when I got there. I guess most folks were home doing the bar-b-cue thing. I hung around for a while checking out the bikes. The parking lot is usually packed with quite an array of iron, both old and new, radical and non-radical. I some how missed the "Boss Hoss", until he started it up. Nothing in the world sounds quite like that V-8 with the semi-open exhaust. Kind of reminds me of the drag races.

Tuesday was the Red Knights special "WHERE'S THE FIRE?" run meeting. We got together at "Five Star Leathers" and hammered out the details for our annual run. See the friendly happy people? See the pin design? Seriously, we had a good time at the meeting, and got a lot accomplished. Little details like what the award certificates will consist of, how many pins to order. Where the end party will take place? That one was easy; we will have it at Boneshakers. J.R. and the rest of the folks there are good to work with, and are quite supportive of the local community. They are especially cooperative when it comes to charity work.

We also had quite a discussion about the part the staff from Sentara is going to play. Their Burn Trauma Center will be the recipient of this year's effort, and they will also have some of the staff working with us on the run, both at the starting point and the end point. We managed to raise two thousand dollars for them last year, and hope to exceed that amount. The details of the route are pretty well finalized, and we will have door prizes from a variety of local businesses this year (not just motorcycle oriented) after all, bikers go lots of places, and a gift certificate from a restaurant can be quite handy.

Last but not least, we decided to make this a "Rain or Shine" event, so if it is thundering and blundering on the 21st of August, just hop in the cage and head for the party stop. We will make arrangements to roll all the numbers there if necessary. After all, the Burn Unit runs 24/7, we need to make every effort to give them a little extra support. Let's hope that none of us ever require the services of this group of fine professionals, but it is comforting to know that if the need arises, they are ready to take care of us.

That's all for this week folks. Unless anyone is interested in joining us next Tuesday evening for dinner at "Fuddruckers" (note, do not ask me to say this name out loud, I will only mention it in print) . This will be our official dinner meeting. It is open to all and starts semi promptly at 1900 -or- 7:00 PM. Open to all means that you do not have to be a member to attend. You don't even have to be invited by a member. Just show up and join us for dinner and socializing. They are located at the south west corner of Virginia Beach Blvd. and Independence blvd., the best way to approach is from the east bound side of Virginia Beach Blvd.

Be careful out there!!

Rich.
