Hey Phill,
A few of us on Hawg Ryder's All Harley Tech Forum have been followin'
your restoration of the Ol' Shovel. You sure have tackled a big project there
Bud and have done an excellent job.
Interesting to see what someone can
do to somethin' that was in such sad shape. You've got a lot to be proud of
when you kick it over for the first time.
A good Bud is goin' through
the same process on a `69 FL that he picked up a few years ago. He's been
runnin' into problems finding serviceable replacement parts for it though.
Everythin' that was on it when he got it was miss matched stuff. Sure you know
what that's like.
Anyway, it's one fine job you're doin' on the Ol'
Girl.
If ya happen to know of anyone that has any `69 spares sittin'
round gatherin' dust, let me know who and how to contact them. I kinda want to
pick up a part or two for my bud on his for X-Mas. Good luck with the project
Phil.

It's funny how I just told Flo I wasn't going to take on any more
projects until this winter, and I wanted to get the Beemer up and running
before I do any work for anyone else. But this came along and I couldn't walk
away from the challenge.
Estle the owner of this machine has owned it
since 1970. Now if you do the math you can come up with about 33 years. The
bike is a '69 Harley Davidson Electra Glide. This is one of the sidecar
specials. It has something I have never seen on a Harley a steering
damper and all the attachments for the sidecar. It also has a trick front
end to allow it increase rake for use with or without the sidecar.
It's
uniqueness and it's owner is what got me to do this one, Estle is a good friend
of mine from the Shipyard, and I had been after him for years to put this old
girl back on the road. He finally took me up on my offer to do the restoration.
As you can see she is in need of a restoration, and what we are
planning is to bring her back to showroom condition as she was in '69. Maybe
not original parts or NOS (New Old Stock), but at least make her look and run
the way she did.

These pages seem to take forever to up date,
but believe me things are happening on all fronts
. Estle and I have been
busy in the last couple of weekends, we get together on Saturdays and push the
project along as best we can. If you want to keep up with this project check
out the "Last Page" on the Biker eNews web site, I keep that page up weekly. As
you can tell from the pictures we are pretty much finished with the frame tear
down. After spending a full day scraping and cleaning it's ready for the
sandblaster and powder coater
. As soon as we deliver the frame and swing
arm, for blasting and coating the real fun begins with the engine teardown.
Frame almost ready for sandblasting and powder
coating. |
 Estle taking a break.... |
I wonder who was living in here... |
Under 30 plus years of road girt there is a transmission
in there |
Getting to the meat of it. |
Now this is a balancing act, and one I should have seen
coming. |

The engine sits on the bench, waiting for it's turn |
