Estle brought some new parts to help us move the project
along. One of the new parts was the rear drive chain, which we installed; this
will allow us to install the inner primary cover. The new speedometer cable was
also installed and the oil lines checked and re routed once more.
Estle had ordered a chain installation tool which made
the master link installation a snap. That's the first time I've used one of
these and I can tell you it was worth the money. What sometimes can be a bit of
a chore pressing the side-plates on; was done without any drama. The master
link retaining clip went right on. In the past I would have used a small
c-clamp to press the link side-plates on, the tool just made it so easy. And
yes the chain is an o-ring type.
We fitted the cover up twice, once to check the oil
lines, and a second time to see if we could install the cover with the starter
attached. The starter had to be removed as well as the reduction gear housing.
I installed the new bearing in the inner cover and now it was ready for final
installation.
Once the inner cover was in place and its bolts torqued
to specs, we added the starter and reduction gear. The primary chain adjuster
was installed and then the compensating sprocket and clutch with the primary
chain where installed. The clutch plates where installed next, along with the
pressure plate and springs. That's as far as we could go without the clutch
cable.
We also received the new carburetor, and several other
small parts we needed for the engine. Unfortunately some of the cables that
were ordered were incorrect and have to be returned.
I think we are just a few weeks from firing up the
engine for the first time. Now we have some wiring to do.
