Saturday 28 October
This was a pretty busy day, Estle had been missing in
action for most of the month, the cold and wet weather is not good for either
of us especially out in the garage. Remember both of us are old guys and we
really don't care to be cold and damp
I started out with doing an oil change and brake fluid
swap for a friend and was just about done when Estle arrived. As always he was
glad to meet new people and Laurie was very interested in the Shovelhead's
restoration. Besides a who wouldn't like talking to good looking red
head
After I completed the service work on Laurie's bike and
she had left we got down to business. Estle surprised me with a specialized
tool he had bought to compress the valve springs and we could now reassemble
the heads. I have a feeling he was getting a little put off with me and our
slow progress. And I guess to some degree he was right to be; but he never said
it or even acted that way. But then we are friends and sometimes I do need a
kick in the butt to get started.
Once we got the heads reassembled we masked them up and I
got right to painting them. They are sitting now drying and waiting to go on
the cylinders. If I can get all of the work done by Friday we are going to try
to set the engine in the frame on Saturday.
You can hear the paint drying... |
Time to pull the tape. |
Estle's new valve spring compressor. |
Valves in, paint done; time to mount the heads on the
cyclinders.. |
Don't let the pictures fool you that black is
deep. |
I couldn't help myself I had to pop on a rocker box and
set the heads on the cylinders to see how its going to look... |
