In this picture you can see the axel spacer and the
lug bolts holding the wheel on. Yes, these old bikes had lug bolts holding the
wheels on. To remove the wheel the bike was jacked up to get the wheel off the
ground, the lugs where removed by using a 7/16" hex key (Allen wrench) inserted
through the holes in the opposite side of the hub flange. The rear fender is
hinged to open and allow the wheel to drop down and roll out the back after the
axel is withdrawn. Once the wheel is out the brake drum and sprocket remained
in place.
