July 2, 2008

The most recent race was Sunday, August 10th. The race before was on July 20th. If you have been looking for the report from the July race, I wasn’t there. Since one of our Harley’s in the Hog Gas Class was out of commission, we elected to go to my 30 Year High School Reunion in Upstate New York and missed the first race in 9 years!!

From what I hear, we picked the best race to miss. There were many new track crew members, Mother Nature added a rain delay and I guess there was just a lot of anger and stress that day. I have the results at the end of the report, well somewhat of the results. Several of the classes do not have a clear first and second place noted on the paperwork. You’ll see several with ?? listed in those cases.

As for this past Sunday, it was a wonderful race day. There was a slight shower before competition started but the weather was cooler and less humid than you would expect for August.

Again there were several new faces as part of the track crew but they seemed to handle things very well. After a round was finished, they even posted the next round on the outside of the tower for all to see. This helped catch a few mistakes in advance.

There was a good size crowd with 20 classes and 103 competitors. Just for a comparison, the July race had 19 classes with 123 competitors.

I haven’t even had the time to review the pictures to select the ones I’ll add to this report. I am going to add a couple of shots from the 1st Capitol Chapter, ABATE of Virginia Motorcycle Rodeo held at Slade’s on July 27th.

The 1st Capitol Chapter is a great bunch of people. The money they attempt to raise goes towards the Veterans at the VA Hospital during Veteran’s Day weekend. Another event I enjoy participating in, as a volunteer, not a rider!! There is an escorted ride from the Newport News YMCA, a car show, motorcycle show and we feed all the Veterans at the hospital that day. The Veterans are the judges for the shows and a great time is guaranteed.

The next race is a special event Labor Day weekend. On Saturday, August 30th the 4 wheelers will race, double elimination, double purse and on Sunday, August 31st the 2 wheelers will race, double elimination, double purse. There is supposed to be a band Saturday evening and it should be a real fun event!!
