 John Wayne Fowler
#2130.
Dirt Drag Racing update and correction...
John wants everyone to know that some of the
info is not correct. He did not lose his toe, no black eyes and his liver and
lung where not bruised. Nothing wrong with his arms either. He fractured his
shin bone and knee and broke his toe lost his toe nail... he has to be off his
leg/foot for 6 to 8 weeks.. he wants to thank everyone for their visits and
phone calls which he hasn't felt like talking on his phone, so I have been
answering it when I can, and telling him everyone who has called to check on
him. He will try to be at the last race of the year.
Thanks again Kelly
fowler
We raced on Sunday, September 20th.
There were 130 registered riders in 18 classes.
The first round of
competition, the third class to run, was Pro Gas with John Fowler in the
spectator lane and Jesse Smallwood in the tower side lane. John has a really
fast bike this year. He competed a couple of races in the Top Fuel A class. He
had the bike to beat and Jesse really wanted that win. During the pass the bike
began to drift towards the center line he didn't let up. That's when "the big
one" happened. The back wheel caught the timing light box and sent the bike and
the rider flying in the air. He wrecked going over 100 MPH but he did get the
win. As we waited for the ambulance, he asked how his bike was and said that he
busted his butt.
It was about an hour before he was loaded into the
ambulance and heading to the hospital. I had noticed the last couple of races
there was no ambulance present. J.C. Martin really pushes for it when his Top
Fuel bike is competing. But with his bike out of commission and cost cutting
measures, I believe they elected to eliminate that expense. I'm not even sure
any of the first folks that attended to him were EMTs until Kevin got there. I
think it costs around $600.00 for the ambulance and crew to be there from noon
to 6 or 7. With 130 riders, an extra $5 each would cover that cost. What do you
guys think?
The first report we got from the hospital later in the
afternoon was that John had no major injuries just lots of bruises and two
black eyes. Dan called me Friday night to give me the full report. John got out
of the hospital on Saturday. He had surgery on his left knee and shin bone on
Wednesday with a plate & pins put in it. He lost a toe on his left foot,
his right ankle is really messed up, his right arm is in bad shape, he has a
bruised lung, liver and of course a bruised butt. It will be a lengthy
recovery.
John Wayne Fowler is a Farmer. His brother, Dan does
firewood for a living. There is another brother that can help out some but with
over a million dollars worth of crops in the fields, they could use some help.
They live in the Courtland area so anyone that has some spare time and maybe
some farming experience, your help would be greatly appreciated. He will be at
the track for the next race so everyone can see for themselves that he is okay.
Rannings Racing had a great day. Jesse made his debut on the Top Fuel
B bike #42. During the practice round, the main shaft broke in the
transmission. With the time delay for John Wayne, Paul Williams had time to go
back to the house, find another shaft and get it changed out before round 2.
Jesse won the second round against Doug Allen. He lost the third round to Jason
Plumber but did an excellent job for the first time out on a fuel bike. In the
Harley class, Jacob placed first and Jesse got second. With a red light against
"8 Ball" in the fourth round and a broken clutch on the Monster Harley in the
final, Jacob got the win this time around.
The 351-500 class was
interesting with Joe Brown on the V8 bike back in competition after 2 years of
adversity. It was a huge feather in our cap when Jesse put him out in round 4
after red lighting against him in round 2. Jesse struggled some after his first
pass on the fuel bike red lighting in the following 2 rounds. One in the
Pushrod and one in the 500. Adrenalin overload...
The last race is
October 18 with a rain date of October 25. Come on out and join the fun!!
