First I would like to say a huge thank you to all the Veterans, current military and the families for proudly serving our country. My next report I'll have some pictures and stories of my Veteran's Day weekend. On September 23rd, we attended the Fowler Family Fun Day out in Courtland. There was a good crowd with some competitors that we don't see at Slade's. It was a sunny, hot, dusty day. I took 83 pictures, some not worth keeping, but many really good shots. Along with the racing, there was an egg toss contest that turned out to be real entertaining. The slow race and wheelie contest were won by the same guy!! Willie and Joseph won the egg toss contest. To be sure I don't forget the details, I am writing this report in September to submit in November. So if some of the wording doesn't seem right you know why.
Towards the end of the competition part of the day, it looked like the only "incident" I had to report, was Dan Fowler driving the tractor into the back fence plate!! He was working the start line and I'm not sure if he had it in first instead of reverse or if the brakes didn't want to work. It was a rather loud impact that affected the tractor none and the fence only minor!! But unfortunately, that was not to be the only "incident". After the racing was over, the fun runs started. Everyone could make as many passes and run whoever they wanted for a spell. Bill had Jacob ride the Blue Harley #96, so he could listen to it go down the track. After that pass, he got on the Red Harley #19, to make a pass against Jacob. Right from the start line, the bike jumped straight up. Instead of getting hurt to try to save it, Bill just stood back and let go. Thank goodness it was just some cosmetic damage and the handle bars may need to be replaced. Three of the bikes weren't able to make it to the start line when the competition began. Larry Hogge broke his transmission on his Pro Gas bike during an early practice round resulting in a day of being a spectator only. Young Dan Fowler tried a different fuel mixture in his Kawasaki #396, in the morning causing his bike to get a mind of its own. When it was started, it would not stop until it blew itself up!! He still had some fun competing on someone else's 250 and his Dad's Pro Gas bike. Young Travis Mahone had transmission difficulties on his mini dirt bike. I didn't think to ask whose bike he raced on during competition. There were only two of the little guys but they sure were fun to watch. Thank you Fowler family for sponsoring the event. We definitely enjoyed ourselves. Next month my report will cover the All Harley Drags at Dinwiddie along with some information from DC on Veteran's Day weekend.
