Bike Week was awesome!! I know most folks go just for the party. We go for the racing!! And the 10 days off were definitely needed. The weather improved each day and it was 82 on the last day, March 10th.

We went to 5 different races. Sunday, March 4th was an excellent day for the All Harley Drags, cool temperatures with little humidity. I know at least 2 track records were broken!! We spent some time talking with Paul Plummer, who was just a spectator for the weekend. The top fuel team of Ray Price out of Raleigh, NC didn't mind us hanging around and asking questions. Jesse had two of his classmates from MMI with him and they had never been to an event like this before.

We went to two different tracks to watch Flat Track Racing, Volusia Speedway and Daytona Municipal Stadium. The racing at the Stadium on Thursday night was some of the best we had ever seen, very competitive. A young kid, age 19 from California won the main event.

We also found an interesting event called Stunt Fury 2007 at New Smyrna Speedway. There were a bunch of guys on 600cc Sport Bikes doing all kinds of tricks; wheelies, stoppies, donuts, and lots of combinations. Again, one of the best ones out there was a young kid, age 15 from Wisconsin. It was really entertaining.

Friday we went to the Daytona Speedway and saw the Supercross. We have been to Bike Week four years now and have never made it to this event. It was great to be there in the afternoon to watch some of the practice and qualifying. It was Ricky Carmichael's next to last race in the series. He is switching to stock cars this year to compete in ARCA Racing. But when it came to race time, it was James Stewart's Day. He dominated the race holding the lead throughout the night. The way he rode, I am surprised he hadn't won at Daytona before!!

Unfortunately, I still don't have the championship information. My schedule has been so crammed before and after vacation, that I haven't been able to catch up with Paul Williams. When I do, I will have a comment posted at the top of the page and a link to go to the championship. Remember it will not be all the classes and there is no monetary award this year, just the fact that you placed 1st or 2nd in your class.

I also have not heard from the folks at Elizabeth City still. I have delayed this report just hoping to have information to share. Maybe next month…
