Howdy Race Fans. Is it spring yet? Might as well be if we aren't going to get any snow. Being a damn Yankee, I really hate winter without snow!!

January was a fun month despite the cold. On January 25th, we drove to Richmond for the 1st Annual HSM Departure Bike Works Swap Meet. We met up with my sister and brother-in-law from Northern Virginia to enjoy the event. They are building a Trike and still needed some parts for it. We had quite a shopping list of what we were looking for. We ended up buying a 1976 Harley 90cc Shortster. Had it running in two hours after we got home too!! We saw Vance Cowling and Joe Brookman there. Joe gave me the schedule for the season. Hopefully you have had a chance to print it and get those dates on your calendar. I think we encouraged a couple of vendors there to come out and try our style of racing!!

Since that event, Joe mailed me the actual rules for the track. He said the ones I had posted were from several years ago.

On January 31st, we again traveled to Richmond for the Two Wheel Banquet put on by the famous Eddie Boomhower. Eddie used to own Richmond Harley Davidson and has been an influential promoter, racer and builder for the Flat Track Racing Series. He has been a huge help with our old Blue Sportster over the years and has a wealth of knowledge. He invited us to display our race Harleys. Since we had to be there early to set up, we got to meet some of those cool old racers before the event started.

There is nothing better than a whole afternoon and evening talking about motorcycles and hearing stories. One guy is 90 years old and still works on his son's bike and goes to the tracks with him. The photo albums and old race posters were awesome. They had some cool pictures of a track that used to be in Norfolk where Janaf is now and one in Portsmouth off London Bridge. I sure wish we had some local places these days. I have always preferred the dirt version of racing!!

The crew from Departure Bike Works is going to have another Swap Meet scheduled March 6th in Fisherville. It's a bit of a drive but after the last one, we can't miss it. If you are interested in going or setting up as a vendor, go to www.departure.com for all the information. There is also a Bike Show in Richmond on March 21 and 22. The information for that can be found www.cycleprousa.com.

I hope you enjoy the collection of pictures from January. Get those bikes out and start getting ready. April is just around the corner!! We hope to go to Northeast Dragway in Hertford and have some fun on the asphalt with the CR500 this spring too. Folks can't believe they just got beat by a Dirt Bike!!
