Dirt Drag Racing
Report 7 - 07 July 18, 2007 |
 Top Fuel Roostin
July 15th was another fantastic day at the track!! The boycott was
called off on Tuesday with Joe and the crew promising better track maintenance
equipment. And then the track was great all day. I have included a picture of
the new tractor and the rig they used behind it. The only real problem we had
for the day was some fools trail riding in the shut down at the end of the
track. It must have happened four times during racing. Not a safe situation at
all!!
One of the other issues that drove some riders away was the
single loss elimination in a class that had more than 10 registered to race.
The 250 and 500 Dirt are usually the largest classes with well over 20 bikes.
On Sunday, several riders didn't show and some moved to different classes to
hopefully get double elimination. In the 500 class, that move almost bit them
in the behind. There were only 6 riders!! The first round when Jacob made his
pass, I swear he rode just like his brother Jesse. He went undefeated for the
day on the V6. That is the first race he has placed in the 250 or 500 class
since the V5 was stolen one year ago!! This was the second raceday that he has
competed in the Hog Gas Class against his Dad. They finished with the same
results as last race, Bill in first and Jacob in second. The only difference
was that Jacob won one round against his Dad. The other big boost for our team
was the presence of some family members in our pit area. My sister and 3 of my
nephews were there to cheer us on!
The pictures that I have included show some of the wild rides for
the day, great wheelies and long flung roosts!! There may be a delay in the
race results getting posted to my sight. I was too busy celebrating and packing
up after racing finished so I missed the crew at the tower to get the results!!
I didn't get to count of how many female riders we had this time but there was
definitely a good showing.
I
have a picture of the tower crew included. On the far left is Donnie Cooper and
he did a wonderful job for the first time as the man behind the microphone. The
next race is August 12th with a rain date of August 19th.
We rec ently enjoyed a week's vacation at home in Upstate
New York. Besides all the family fun including my parent's 50th anniversary,
family fireworks and the 4th of July parade, we went to Action Park Speedway in
Greene, NY for some speedway bike racing. We grew up going to Speedway in Owego
every Sunday night. The bikes we saw at Greene were tame compared to the
Harleys in the old days!! It was neat to see a second generation racer compete,
Jesse Diem is the son of Warren Diem from the 70's!! Their turnout was pretty
low since there were so many weddings and graduation parties on July 7th. Plus
the following weekend there was a big event scheduled. In the D2 Main, there
was a girl out there that won, Deanna Holden!! I have some pictures added to
this report and will have some more next month, after I get that roll of film
developed. They had a new event with several kids from Sidney, NY competing on
BMX bicycles in 2 lap heats. That was pretty strange to watch; and quiet!!
