The 2007 racing schedule for Slades is here...

Time to start counting down to the first race of the season!! With a little luck, the first date will be April 22nd at Slade's Park. The rest of the schedule is being ironed out.

I don't have any information from the Elizabeth City folks. They're in the middle of their Winter Motocross Series and won't sit down to make plans until early March. They also still have to decide if their new Drag Racing will be AMA Sanctioned or Outlaw Style Racing.

Outlaw is pretty much how we run at Slade's. AMA Sanctioned has a lot more rules involved. The first being you have to be an AMA member to compete. We let our membership lapse but it used to be $15.00 a year per person. I don't think we would be able to have Top Fuel Bikes and they are strict on kids only riding smaller size bikes, not 125CC. Elizabeth City is a great facility and I like their plans for the track. Everything is a wait and see game for right now.

A wonderful lady from last season is going through a tough time. Kelly Bain, John Fowler's fiancé worked the registration and tower. She is battling breast cancer. They had planned to get married this January but put it off to focus on surgery and treatment. Please keep Kelly in your thoughts and prayers.

I don't have much to report, so I decided to reflect on the past year. It was very challenging for Rannings Racing. The loss of the Honda Race Bike, V5, is still something we haven't recovered from. It is hard to look at pictures and realize we'll never see that awesome bike that we put so much care, time and money into. Then in August, Jesse headed to Florida for further education. Not having him around the house and at the track with us made the end of the year feel very strange. Bill has really enjoyed his return to competition and will be on the Harley again this year. By the end of the race season, both promoters had announced they would not return for the 2007 season. We were left wondering if there would be a new season at all.

I've had several requests for Points Standing for the year. With the change in promoters for this season, there is no Championship like last year. But Paul is currently working on the classes that were not scrambled during the year. The results he comes up with will be only for the races promoted by him and will be calculated a bit different than last year. There are no awards program scheduled for the first race; like last year. It's more for fun and bragging rights for those that finished in the top of their class.

The pictures I am adding are just a few that I like but haven't posted before. I hope to get the next report in before Bike Week. We leave March 2nd for Sunny Florida and some time with the oldest son!!
